Jay Wettig, CPA has over twenty-five years of experience in multiple areas of the accounting industry. Jay is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Nevada earning his degree in accounting at Wichita State University. He is a member in good standing of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Belinda Carter is our Full Charge Bookkeeper, Intuit QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor & Payroll Specialist. Belinda began work in accounting in 1995 and in 1998 joined Melvin Ray, CPA. She has been a QuickBooks ProAdvisor since 1999. Belinda keeps the books for small businesses and individuals. She also loves helping clients set up and maintain their own QuickBooks files and payroll.
When away from the office Belinda concentrates on family, her animals and travel. She is an avid collector of memorabilia from her visits all over the world.
Melanie Thompson, who began with the firm 14 years ago, will be going forward as Office Manager and Administrator. Meanie completes the processing of our returns and works with our clients to complete the processing of the tax returns and other accounting documents to complete our process. Melanie provides the glue that keeps the office operating efficiently and she will continue to provide the same friendly service for you in the future.
Melvin Ray was the founder of the accounting firm Melvin S Ray CPA. He began his practice back in the 1970’s as a tax practice, bookkeeping, accounting, and consulting sole proprietorship. Jay Wettig and Associates CPA PLLC is the extension of that original firm today and marks the same core values and service that Mel exhibited in his 50+ years in business. Mel cared about his clients and always felt that it was his personal touch of seeing each client face-to-face each year that helped them feel like they were more than just a tax return full of numbers filed with the IRS. Mel took the time to sit down with as many clients as he could to discuss what their goals and aspirations were for themselves, their business, and their family.
Mel also enjoyed interests outside of the firm, especially music. He was a die-hard deadhead fan, attending many Grateful Dead concerts with friends and clients. Mel also enjoyed the New Orleans Jazz Festival and likewise attended the festival many years with friends/clients and family. Mel always would say that the NOJF should be on everyone’s bucket list to attend at least once. An extension (no pun intended here with the IRS!) of that love of music was Mel’s collection of art memorabilia of many of his favorite groups. Leading the way was the Grateful Dead, the Rolling Stones, and the Eagles. Clients would be amiss if they didn’t walk down the hallway of the office back to Mel’s office and notice all of the New Orleans Jazz Festival annual posters, framed elegantly dating all the way back to the 1980’s.
Mel also loved sports. He was a big supporter and fan of the University of Nevada Reno athletics (having received his master’s degree in accounting), attending football and basketball games for years in his famed mid-field or half court seats. Growing up in Southern California, Mel attended UCLA where he obtained his undergraduate degree, and had a love for UCLA basketball, having attended school there during John Wooden’s famed coaching career, and being able to attend many games watching legends such as Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul Jabbar) and Bill Walton.
All of these traits endeared our clients to Mel and obviously Mel to our clients. Mel’s legacy helps create forward momentum for us as we continue to strive for and honor him as our founder. He was a giant amongst his peers and a helping hand to anyone in need of advice or guidance. Thank you Mel, you will be missed.
